Hello and Happy September!

Next month will be the 1 year anniversary of the Cooking Circle, and I’m so grateful that I’ve been getting to share with you here for a whole year! I’m going to be recording a Q&A anniversary video for October. If you have any questions about intuitive cooking or any other kitchen matters, please leave them in the comments here or email me at hello@golubkakitchen.com, and I will make sure to answer them.

Over here, we’ve been spending every free moment by bathing in the sweetness that is late summer. Getting out into the sunshine, swimming in the ocean, rivers (in the Berkshires!), and lakes (in Maine!), and having dinner outside. There are subtle but undeniable changes in the air: nights being cooler, the days getting shorter, and the silver light, which is so distinctly different from the golden light of peak summer.

I saw the first winter squashes at the farmers market this past weekend, which is always a bittersweet moment. The blueberries are out and the grapes are in, with the stone fruit still in high supply. It’s a beautiful time of year, with a tinge of melancholy.

In this month’s video, I talk all about optimizing time in the kitchen as I make a creamy tomato soup, miso polenta with fresh corn, and marinated green beans and peppers.

Seasonal Pleasures and Other Stuff

Slow roasting tomatoes is one of my favorite late summer food preservation activities. I store them in olive oil, which makes them keep for a long time in the fridge. You can even freeze the tomatoes right in the oil and enjoy the fruits of your summer labor in the middle of winter. Here is my method + a video :)

⁕ The other week, I made the zucchini/summer squash dip from our blog and fell in love all over again. It’s such a great recipe to make in the midst of summer squash abundance (or overabundance) and is so easy. Here’s a short video of the process.

⁕ My interest in herbalism has been reignited recently. I’ve been reading herbalism books, scouring Susun Weed’s website, and making daily herbal infusions. I was so delighted to learn about the beautiful documentary Juliette of the Herbs, all about the world renowned herbalist Juliette de Bairacli Levy. Highly recommend! Her books are next on my list.

Wishing you a wonderful September!
